Find Out MoreFully qualified Personal Trainer since 2006 - CYQ The CYQ course, administered through the YMCA, is highly respected within the fitness industry throughout Europe and Australia. It encompasses gym and circuit training at advanced levels together with nutrition, first aid in the work place and weight management. A fundamental element of this NVQ level 3 course is to provide a thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology and how to apply this knowledge in training others. I took the decision to qualify initially to provide practical help and advice to my wife who suffered with a back injury following a car accident in August 2003.
I have since developed this expertise and have been offering a personal training service to individuals and organisations, incorporating advice on lifestyle, weight management, body building and nutrition. As a regular gym user for 15+ years I am familiar with many advanced training and free weights techniques and am an adept at training using fit (Swiss) ball techniques for core muscle development. Highly adept at integrating stability ball exercises into body building and general fitness training routines.
I'm fully conversant with all aspects of Cardiovascular training and in particular its application for weight loss programmes. I'm happy to provide training for individuals and for classes for 2 to 20 people. In addition to my conventional expertise.
I also hold a black belt in Okinawan Goju-Ryu karate and I have been instructing for around 11 years. I regularly attend seminars and senior training sessions and my immediate sensei (instructor) is a 7th Dan master and was the world continuous fighting champion for 3 years running. Apart from anything else, my karate has given me a great insight into many advanced training, self defence and body conditioning techniques, which I am happy to share with any who are interested.
Working with Stroud District Council under their ‘Healthy Workplace Scheme’ as Lifestyle Champion has allowed me to work with a number of selected local companies in order to carry out one-to-one lifestyle checks on their employees. The checks comprise height/weight, BMI, hip/waist ratio, blood pressure and a number of other lifestyle traits allowing me to advise on smoking cessation, alcohol consumption and diet. With numbers in each company ranging from 70 to 150 or more, I also delivered workshops on exercise and food & nutrition and lead health walks on a regular basis.
